Why support our Scottish heritage and dementia archive?

I Dr Don Carney was motivated to produce the archive through pride in my Scottish ancestral past. The archive started in 1989 and has been a pleasure to produce. Its achievements to date have been extraordinary.

My ancestral past and your ancestral past is a story worth telling. I am the little loon in the middle

The limits to what a one man operator who is well over retirement age can do to save the archive

As a one man business I cannot guarantee the archive will be saved for future generations to enjoy, learn from and utilise. The archive needs to be secured in an organisation who can safeguard its future and provide access to future users. A philanthropic gesture to ensure this happens to the archive is urgently required. You can donate the archive to an organisation of your choice our consider our choices.

Do you have the same passion for saving our Scottish heritage as we do

I am sure there must be some philanthropist who shares our passion about the importance of our rich Scottish past and preserving the ordinary persons life and work for posterity. This archive could never be recorded again as many of our featured ordinary people are no longer with us. They were happy to give me custody of their past life and work and I must return that trust in me by saving their contribution for posterity. If you know of such a person, or you are such a person please get in touch for a blether. Contact me here

The only modern new film archive of things gone bye

Our Scottish heritage film archive is the only new film resource that has been produced in modern times about any society. Creating an archive like this is 100% cost based. For that reason no organisation could afford to fund such an undertaking. I have funded 98% of the costs of 35 years work and technology provision myself. The archive can boast of having over 530 hours of unique footage all digitised telling the story of the ordinary people of Scotland in their own voice and way. The camera has never dominated the creation of our content. The real stars are our contributors. I am constantly adding to this archive but I could do much more with sound financial support. See our complete listing of clips here.

Our unique Scottish heritage reminiscence film archive is more than a collection of authentic historical footage

it is an endorsed  lifeline for individuals living with dementia and alzheimer’s

it is a vital cultural resource for all those interested in their Scottish past or Scotland’s past
the archive already enjoys world distribution and diverse utility

it is a rich new digital film library for Joe public, academics, health care professionals, educational specialists and others to use

can be a source of authentic resources for future technology to optimise for social good.
is a future proofed legacy for generations to come to further develop in areas not yet even identified

By supporting our work, a philanthropic contribution can play a crucial role in preserving an invaluable part of our shared Scottish heritage for the general public, academics, researchers, educationalists and for making a meaningful impact on dementia and alzheimer’s care worldwide.

An old picture house

To read about our past is stimulating but to also have a film archive to actually see and experience aspects of our past is truly fascinating
